Our Projects
Driving change through advocacy, community engagement, and youth empowerment.
Accountability Structures for Grassroots Governance (ASGG)
The Accountability Structures for Grassroots Governance (ASGG) project is a youth-led initiative designed to promote inclusive participation and strengthen accountability mechanisms between local governments and marginalized groups across selected communities in Rivers State.
At its core, ASGG responds to the growing disconnect between citizens—particularly youth, women, and persons with disabilities (PWDs)—and local governance systems. Despite being the closest tier of government, local authorities often operate with limited citizen engagement, weak transparency systems, and minimal accountability to the people they serve.
Through ASGG, Fringe Voices Development Foundation (FVDF) seeks to bridge this gap by:
- Empowering young people and marginalized groups with the knowledge, tools, and platforms needed to actively engage in governance processes.
- Strengthening accountability systems through citizen-led monitoring, advocacy, and structured engagement with local government officials.
- Creating inclusive spaces, such as Citizen Assemblies, where community members can directly interact with decision-makers, raise concerns, and track commitments.
- Building a new generation of civic leaders who are informed, proactive, and committed to transparency and good governance.
By fostering collaboration between citizens and local institutions, ASGG will enhance trust, improve service delivery, and deepen democratic participation at the grassroots level.
Vision
Ultimately, the project envisions a governance system where every voice counts, inclusion is prioritized, and accountability becomes a shared responsibility between citizens and institutions.
Youth Leading Change: Advancing Electoral Reform in Nigeria
Overview
The Supporting Youth to Lead Electoral Reform Advocacy Efforts in Nigeria project is a nationwide initiative designed to empower the next generation of leaders. In the South-South region, Fringe Voices Development Foundation serves as the strategic regional partner, driving grassroots engagement and youth mobilization.
The Challenge
Young people represent over 60% of Nigeria’s population, yet remain underrepresented in electoral decision-making. Limited access to platforms, systemic barriers, and weak engagement with policymakers continue to hinder their participation.
Our Approach
We adopt a multi-level advocacy approach that combines grassroots mobilization with high-level policy engagement:
- Outreach: Community and campus outreach to mobilize youth participation.
- Direct Engagement: Collaboration with lawmakers, INEC, and key stakeholders.
- Digital Advocacy: Nationwide campaigns to amplify youth voices.
- Capacity Building: Empowering youth leaders and civil society actors with advocacy skills.
What We Are Achieving
- Engaging over 1,000 young people in electoral reform processes.
- Training and empowering 400+ youth leaders for advocacy.
- Strengthening collaboration between youth groups and policymakers.
- Increasing awareness and visibility of youth electoral reform priorities.
Who Benefits
- Young men and women, including persons with disabilities.
- Civil society and community-based organizations.
- Faith-based groups and youth networks.
- Media practitioners and journalists.
Why It Matters
This project is helping to rebuild trust in Nigeria’s democratic processes by ensuring that young people are not just participants, but active drivers of reform. By amplifying diverse youth voices, it contributes to a more inclusive, transparent, and accountable electoral system.
Mission & Sustainability
Empowering Youth. Strengthening Democracy. Driving Reform.
Through capacity building and strengthened local structures, the project ensures that youth-led advocacy continues beyond its duration. Fringe Voices Development Foundation is building a strong foundation for sustained engagement in the South-South region.
Strengthening Women’s Voices, Institutions, and Rights
Fringe Voices Development Foundation is proud to be a sub-recipient of support from the Nigeria Women Trust Fund (NWTF) under the project “Strengthening Women’s Voices, Institutions, Women’s Rights, and Ending Violence Against Women and Girls in Nigeria.” This milestone reinforces our commitment to advancing gender equality and promoting the rights, safety, and leadership of women and girls across our communities.
Through this support, Fringe Voices is currently implementing targeted interventions in Bayelsa State aimed at empowering women, strengthening local institutions, and addressing the systemic barriers that limit women’s participation in governance and decision-making processes.
Strategic Focus Areas:
- Institutional Strengthening: Building the capacity of local organizations to advocate for women’s rights.
- Ending GBV: Prioritizing efforts to prevent and respond to violence against women and girls (VAWG).
- Governance Participation: Removing systemic barriers to ensure women are part of high-level decision-making.
- Community Engagement: Working with grassroots actors to foster safer, more equitable environments.
By working closely with community stakeholders, women leaders, and grassroots actors, Fringe Voices is fostering inclusive platforms where women’s voices are heard, respected, and integrated into policies and programs that affect their lives. This initiative represents a significant step toward building safer, more equitable communities where women and girls can thrive.
Impact Goal
We remain grateful for this partnership and committed to driving sustainable impact in the advancement of women’s rights and social justice in Nigeria.
